Apple pushes iOS 6.0.1 update

Image
Apple has released the first update to iOS 6 which is available for a free download to iDevices. The update improves upon glitches pertaining to Wi-Fi and cellular data connections as well as an issue pertaining to Passbook security, whereby Passbook details were unexpectedly being accessible from the lock screen. It also fixes a bug affecting Exchange meetings that earlier caused unexpected cancellations for the entire calendar invite group, when just one user declined an invite. Another noticeable bug fix is the one that caused strange static and horizontal lines being displayed across the keyboard. Other fixes include dealing with camera flash issues, adding control for iTunes Match syncing via 3G/4G data connections and improving reliability of iPhone 5 and iPod touch (5th generation) when connected to encrypted WPA2 Wi-Fi networks.

Windows Phone 8 - will you be getting it this Christmas?

Image
Today Microsoft introduced Windows Phone 8, its umpteenth attempt at conquering the mobile world arena. All the buzz (or FUD, since no release and pricing information was given) that has been created lately in order to promote this new iteration of MS mobile platform as the something utterly new, something that will ride like a tsunami through iPhone and Android ruled ocean fails to acknowledge that there is in fact not much new here - it is NOT a new operating system. Its first iteration saw the light of day, 2 years ago as a Windows Phone 7 , a successor to clumsy Windows Mobile, which has, in one form or another been on the market since April 2000. Yes, folks, Microsoft has been in the mobile game for over a decade now, way before the onslaught of Apple and Android powered devices.
